Green & Cozy: A safe jungle for your pets
Do your pets ever get up to mischief? Stealing your food, knocking over glasses, or even taking a bite from your favorite plant? In the worst case, they could be at risk of being poisoned. But don't worry, luckily there are plenty of plants that are safe for your dog or cat. With the following plants, you can still bring some greenery into your home without endangering your pet.
Calathea
You can't go wrong with Calatheas. These plants come in many varieties, and the name "peacock plant" already hints at their beauty. They're also known as "the living plant." This plant moves! At night, a Calathea folds its leaves inward. In the morning, it stretches out again. So Calatheas are not only safe for your dog or cat, you'll even have a kind of pet.
Palm trees
Prefer a large, imposing plant? Then look no further than palm trees. While not all are suitable, there are certainly some safe options. Consider a bamboo palm or a areca palm, for example. Perfect for literally breathing life into that dull corner. You'll be happy, and your pet will be happy.
Orchid
If you prefer a pop of color in your home, orchids are the perfect choice. Yellow, orange, red, purple, white, pink—as one of the largest plant families, the choice is enormous. Although the houseplant version of the orchid originates from Southeast Asia, there are also species found in the Dutch countryside. If you'd like to bring one home, it's better to choose a houseplant. In the Netherlands, the flowers are protected and may not be picked.
